Sahara Desert Animals Dangers Animal's

Sahara (Arabic for Great Desert) Desert is the world’s greatest hot desert. After the cold desert of Antarctica and Arctic, Sahara is 3rd largest. It covers an area of 9.4 million km2 .It includes parts of Libya, Mali, Morocco, Sudan, Tunisia, Niger, Chad, Algeria, Egypt, and Western Sahara.

Animals in desert have grown to bear the harsh conditions of the desert’s heat and lack of water. Their bodies have adapted the climate of desert. Asbestos lung cancer. These animals can stay without water for days. Many of the animals look for shades in the desert during peak hot hours. Others protect themselves by digging underground holes. Reptiles spend their time in burrows. The Sahara contains more than 300 species of birds which migrate. Some of the most common birds are raptors, guinea fowl, Nubian bastards, barn owls, desert eagle, pale crag martins, sand larks and ravens.

Some of the species of mammals are Cape, jerboa, Neuson, Dorcas Gazelle, Nubian Wild, Spotted hyena, sand fox, slender mongoose, jackal etc.

Bighorn Sheep is one of the oldest habitats of the desert. These animals are extremely sensitive to human-induced environmental problems and hence people count them as a good indicator. They perspire and also do panting in the desert. They eat the insides of cacti plants.

When we say ‘desert’, scorpions are the first animal that comes into our minds. The scorpions are the longest in this region with a length of 8 inches.

Frightful creatures such as Collared Lizard got its name from two dark collars. They run very fast on their hind legs and their skin comes off if any predator grabs it. They eat small insects, rodents and lizards.

The magical animals, Kangaroo Rat, can convert dry seeds into water while eating them. They mostly spend their hot days in burrows; except the two durations of their activities.

Bacterian Camel has two humps on its back. They store fat in their hump to live harsh days in the desert without food. They can stay up to 17 days without food.

One of the smallest owls also fly in Sahara Desert, and live on cactus trunks. Popularly the bird is known as Elf owl.

Echidna is an anteater which sticks it tongue out to catch prey. They produce sort of a sniffing noise when searching for food.

Road runner runs very fast, up to 15 miles/hour. They can chase their prey easily. They have also got the unique ability of lowering their own body temperature in response for the weather.

Similarly Addax Antelope, Dromedary Camels, Dorcas Gazella, dung beetle, horned vipers , monitor lizards are some of the oldest species in the world.

The list goes on and on.
