London Eye is the great tourist attraction, located in near the bank of the river thames in London, United kingdom. It is 135 meter about 443feet tall and the wheel diameter is 120 meter about 350feet, the wonderful design of the Eye. In England it's very popular paid visitors attraction, that is the tallest wheel in Europe. Mostly people visit to UK, and about 3.5 million visitors specially visit to London Eye per year. In 1999 it was the tallest Ferris wheel in the world, until surpassed first by the 160m Star of Nanchang in 2006 and then the 165m Singapore Flyer in 2008. It provides the highest public viewing point, where you can see the all London.
Design and construction
The London Eye was designed by architects Frank Anatole, Nic Bailey, Steve Chilton, Malcolm Cook, Mark Sparrowhawk, and the husband-and-wife team of Julia Barfield and David Marks.History
The London Eye was open in 31 December 1999, by the England Prime Minister, Tony Blair. It was not fully open before 9 March 2000 for public, because there was some some technical problem. Before the opening of eye, it has become a major visitor attraction. Since 1 January 2005, the Eye has been the focal point of London's New Year celebrations, with 10-minute displays taking place involving fireworks fired from the wheel itself. |
