Montmartre Most Popular Hill In Paris, France

Montmartre is a popular hill at the north of the city Paris in France. It is nearly 130 meters in length. The whole district is named after this hill. The white-domed Basilica of the Sacre Coeur made Montmartre popular. Jesuit order of priests was also founded on the hill at the church of Saint Pierre de Montmartre. The most popular artists who worked there included Amedeo Modigliani, Piet Mondrian, Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso, Claude Monet and Vincent van Gogh. It’s like a village to many, and there is a vast number of tourists here.

At the bottom of the hill lie the Boulevard de Clichy that consists of food stalls selling kebab and many bars that remain open the whole night. There is also a mini-train which travels through the narrow alleys in Montmartre giving a very good view of overall city. Mostly families with children travel on these routes.

Montmartre soon became the center of Arts in Paris. The popular song, La Boheme, released bt Charles Aznavour depicts they story of a young painter who is remembering his years spent in Montmartre. This song is a goodbye to what Montmartre used to be during the site of Bohemian Activity.

Rue Saint-Vincent is a small vineyard which produces wine at the rate of 500 liters per annum in Ile de France. Maurice Utrillo artists used to live in exactly the same residence where Musee de Montmartre exists. At the back, the mansion that lied has now become the oldest hotel of Montmartre.

The historic district of Montmartre develop much less to maintain a historic character and identity.

Montmartre is an officially designated historic district with limited development allowed in order to maintain its historic character. There is also a funicular railway which goes up the hill at the south giving the passengers a panoramic view. Pigalle is situated at the southwest and is known for variety of stores which offers musical instruments. There are many rock music concerts arranged in this part of the district.

Many tourists visit and participate in annual functions. Fête des vendanges was being organized and as much as 350,000 people attended it in Montmartre during every October.
