Iguazu FallsIguazu falls are waterfalls of the Iguazu River at the border of Argentina Province and Brazilian
State. It rises near the city of Curitiba. Most of its course is through Brazil. The name Iguazu
itself means water. The falls were first found by Spanish man Álvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca in
1541.

It is located where the Iguazu river roll forward over the edge of a Plateau known as Parana
Plateau which is about 14 miles away.

There are numerous small waterfalls ranging from 150 to 300 and their heights varying between
60 to 82 meters. It was made as a result of volcanic eruption which left a crack between rivers.

The falls are over two miles in width and eighty meters high, hence making them higher than
Niagara Falls and wider than Victoria, and more beautiful than both of them.

No words and pictures can describe the feelings of a person standing there, being hypnotized
Iguazu Fallsby the ultimate beauty of nature. The congregation of deep roaring falls, the massive colors of
rainbow arcs, the soaking mist in the atmosphere and last but not the least, and touring through
the jungle of the wild. Wild parrots, toucans, multi-hued butterflies and rare cats like puma,
jaguar and ocelot can also be found here. The walkways have been provided which provides a
full view. The walkway is situated along the canyon and has an extension which leads straight
to the Devil’s throat. Helicopter rides are also available which gives an aerial view of the Iguazu
Falls.

The Brazilian Airport ‘Foz do Iguazu International Airport’ is situated between Brazil and the
falls. The nearest city is Foz do Iguazu and the falls are being shared in two parks. The Iguazu
National Park was labeled as one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in 1987. The Brazilian
Transportation also gives a chance for a panoramic view through 72-passenger double deck
buses.

The rate of flow of water of the falls, (discharge) during wet seasons (Nov- March), reach 450,000 cubic
feet per second. Therefore the best time to tour the falls is during spring and fall.
