Sao Paulo (a.k.a Sampa) the largest city in Brazil, consist of a city population of about 11 million (20
million in its metropolitan region). It is world’s sixth largest city population wise. It has got the largest
Japanese population outside Japan itself. One of the most active and richest cities in the southern
hemisphere offers a cheerful nightlife and intensive experience in culture. It officially became a city in
1711. It was sounded in 1554 by Jesuit Missionaries. Coffee exports marked the beginning of economy
by European Immigrants.

At south, lies the renowned Parque Estadual Serra do Mar which is a part of Atlantic Forest and a
UNESCO World Heritage Site, providing exuberant rainforests; hence attracting millions of tourists from
around the world.

History Of The Sao Paulo City

 The birthplace of Sao Paulo is the Downtown, the area enriched with history, culture and diverse people
rushing for work. The most vibrant and lively area is at the west of the city, where the main government
lies. Palace of Bandeirantes is also located there. South Central region is the wealthiest, which also
contains Parque do Ibirapuera, a place known for recreations and shopping malls. Many of the large
scale events like the annual Carnival takes place in the north-east side of the city. The Far South side is
mainly covered by huge forests and farms. The Wildlife is in this category. The carnival is the only form
of celebration which continues for four days before the Ash Wednesday, marking the beginning of Lent
(when people gave up on the pleasures of the flesh)

The Paulistanos have a reputation of being the most hard-working and engaged. They contribute with
15% of the Brazil’s GNP (Gross National Product). A huge center lies in Sao Paulo for business tourism.
When these people are not working, they are busy clubbing. Intensive city night-life with clubs and pubs
located everywhere. The language which inhabitants normally speak is English, with Spanish, Italian or
French as the secondary languages.

In 1827, University of Sao Paulo’s College of Law was being established which is the oldest law school
in Brazil.

For shopping, Oscar Friere Street for Godiva, Versace, Armani and Louis Vuitton comes into the minds.
Campos do Jordao, a cold wine, is popular for being brewed locally. The city is known internationally for a major influence is economics, politics and culture.
