Arc de Triomphe is one of the most popular and famous monument situated in Paris. It is at the center of Place Charles de Gaulle at the western end. There is also one similar Arc de Triumph du Carrousel which is to the west of Louvre. This Triumphal Arch was made to honor the sacrifices mades by people who died in French Revolutionary. It has written over it all the names of the French Generals who dedicated their lives in the Napoleonic Wars. There is one tomb of a soldier from World War I which was founded underneath the vault. The identity of the soldier is still not found.

In 1806, Jean Chalgrin designed the monument. It had a patriotic message carved with it. The monument is 164 feet in height, 148 feet in width and 72 feet in depth. It was the largest triumphal arch that was built until the new triumph in Pyongyang was built.
The arc can be found at the right bank of the river Seine. There are often parades of French troops on the day of annual Bastille Day Military Parade. There may be parade under the arc or around it. Germans marched in 1871; French in 1919, Germans in 1940 while the French in 1944.

Jean Chalgrin propsed the stylar design portraying Roman Architecture. All the most popular and basic sculptors of France can be found in the sculpture of the Arc de Triomphe which includes Francois Rude, Philippe Joseph Henri Lemaire, Jean-Pierre Cortot, Antoine Etex. The 4 sculptural groups which are found at the base of the Arc are called the Triumph of 1810, Resistance a Peace and the Departure of the Volunteers. There is also an attic where there are thirty shields engraved with the soldier names of those who won the war. There are list of names of 660 soldiers in the inside walls. 

Maurice Benayoun and Christophe Girault introduced the new media and steel installation which questions the theme of the monument. It interrogates the balance in war and peace and the pendulum is still moving in between these two.
